This Week is Mental Well Health Week;
How Flax can help with your mental wellbeing. Eating right is every bit as important for your mental wellbeing as is for the rest of your body. Eating better can help your body and brain in lots of ways. The more your mental wellbeing improves the easier it gets to do the other things will look after you.
Omega-3: Flaxseed (Linseed) Oil is a great source of omega-3 which has long been known as “brain-food”. The brain requires a greater proportion of omega-3 than any other part of our body. it is essential for healthy braincell development from the earliest age and research shows it supports brain function and mood as we get older.
Fibre and Blood Sugar Levels: Ground Flax is a a rich source of dietary fibre, especially soluble fibre which slows down the rate at which we absorb sugars and carbs and that helps keep blood sugar levels where they should be. Hormone Balance: Ground Flaxseed is known as “Nature’s HRT”. It is a healthy, kind food that helps balance ladies’ (and men’s) hormones. For women a little help with PMT and during the pre-menopause and menopause years can be a great help to mental wellbeing and energy levels.
Gut Biome: Experts are now discovering the importance of a health gut biome to support the brain and mood. Omega-3 and fibre are important for diversity of gut bugs and great for total gut health.

We’ve sort of rediscovered what a great ingredient Linseed Porridge is. Not just a healthy gluten-free alternative, we actually prefer it to wheat flour in a lot of recipes. We love our latest recipes for cakes made with Linseed porridge, First we made chocolate brownies which is my favourite ever brownie, much less sweet so cab be suitable for diabetic diets. Next, we made blueberry and lemon cake which is sensational both are going to be regular standbys for everyone who tasted it.

We work hard to make lovely fresh, mild flaxseed oil. It does have amazing properties but it is a real food which means you can enjoy your omega-3 in your every day foods.
Green Sauce with Flaxseed Oil A lovely savoury standby and a great way to increase your omega-3 naturally. When I make green sauce I stuff herbs, a couple of cloves of garlic, maybe anchovies, maybe some lemon zest, a little squeeze of lemon, nuts or seeds – toasted or raw, all blended up with Flax Farm Flaxseed Oil or a mix of flax and olive oil until smooth-ish. Sometimes I add sweet peppers, carrots or celery. Good on crackers or oatcakes with a glass of white wine or with any fish, meat, pulses, pasta, veggies etc.

Dogs benefit from flax too
Dogs enjoy the taste of Flaxseed oil. Just like us their diets are getting low in omega-3. Some Flaxseed oil is magic for a healthy skin and glossy coat.
