A Whole Food Plant Based diet (WFPB) is a term coined by the biochemist T. Colin Campbell, (https://nutritionstudies.org/history-of-the-term-whole-food-plant-based/) who wrote The China Study. It refers to food that is mainly from plants, minimal or no animal products, as unprocessed as possible, certainly no ultra-processed food or ingredients. It can be summed up by: “Nothing bad added, nothing good taken away”. It often means making your meals yourself. This is very different from foods labelled “plant-based” that can be and often are highly processed UPFs.
Whether you are looking to lose weight, or been advised to increase fibre in your diet, eat more healthily to improve your next set of blood test results or correct some bad ones WFPB can be a great way to do it. Part of the success of WFPB is that it keeps salt to a minimum, leaves out saturated fats, UPFs, ultra-processed, inflammatory foods and greatly increases fibre in the diet.
Ground Flax is a superfood wholefood and a great ally when you are doing WFPB. It is very versatile and really bumps up the fibre levels. Especially the important fibre that ferments, feeds and increases the good microbes of the gut microbiome. Fermenting fibre in the gut creates buytate, propionate and acetate that play a role in protecting the gut wall and other organs in the body including the brain. It also helps the tummy adapt quickly to this if it is a new way of eating for you. See the new category WFPB on our website for products and recipes. https://www.flaxfarm.co.uk/product-category/whole-food-plant-based/

Focus on Flax for Fibre & short chain fatty acids (SCFAs)
Flax is a great support for health, digestion, the immune system and weight control. Flax is an exceptionally good source of fibre that can help your body from the inside to the outside and its especially good for the bit in the middle. It’s down to the unique types of fibre in flax that makes it work so well.
Flax Fibre has been much in the news recently because it increases the varieties and quantities of good gut bugs which turn fibre into the short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) which keep the gut healthy are absorbed through the gut wall into the body to support health from your brain to your skin.
