Ground linseed (flaxseed) has long been a favourite for weight loss, diabetic and “low carb” diets . Part of the magic is that linseed contains only 1g per 100g of linseed is digestible “carbohydrate”, all the rest is fibre, protein and omega-3 rich oils. The combination of these nutrients makes it very filling and sustaining, and helps keep blood sugar levels stable.
Versatile and tasty
Ground linseed is incredibly versatile, you can use it to make carb-free “comfort foods” like breads, crisps, crackers, desserts and porridge which seem naughty but aren’t, Linseed fills you up and is good for sustaining slow release energy. This makes ground flaxseed (linseed) a great ingredient for a ketogenic diet.
Flaxseed oil is also carb-free and suitable for diets with reduced sugar and carbohydrate.
