Healthy
Elevate baked beans into a tasty dip that is a health-food rich in omega-3, vitamin C, vitamin E, phytonutrients and garlicky goodness.
Kids will love making and eating it it
It’s a lovely creamy hummus that’s really quick and easy to make. So easy to make it’s fun for the kids to try their hand at. The familiar flavour of baked beans makes this hummus particularly popular with kids or anyone hasn’t yet got into the flavour of more typical hummus.
The recipe makes baked beans so much healthier – full of omega-3, fibre, loads of other good vitamins and phytonutrients with almost no salt or added sugar.
Super good value
Baked beans are always cheap and this makes a lovely big tubful, about twice as much as you get ready made at the supermarket for about £1 and you know exactly what went into it.
Easy to adapt
Very adaptable to your personal preference or what you have in your store cupboard. I don’t add any salt; for me, the lemon, garlic and spices make it plenty tasty enough.
- Step 1. Drain the juice off a can of baked beans and tip the drained beans into a food processor. You can use low salt, low sugar versions.
- Step 2. Add 2-3 heaped tablespoons tahini. For those who don’t like, don’t have, don’t eat or are allergic to sesame use peanut, cashew or almond butter.
- Step 3. Add 2 tablespoons Flax Farm Flaxseed Oil, rich in omega-3
- Step 4. Add juice of half a lemon
- Step 5. 1 scant teaspoon ground cumin (optional) and black pepper (optional). Blend until smooth.
- Step 6. Add a good handful of coriander and blend lightly. If you prefer use parsley.
Transfer to serving dish, top with chopped coriander or other herbs.
