Naturally soothing

A recipe for simple drink which has a great reputation for soothing a  tickly or persistent cough and also makes a pleasant, comforting hot drink. It contains just 2 ingredients, whole linseeds (flaxseed) and water; It  is completely natural, chemical-free and sugar-free.

Linseed tea has been a traditional cough remedy for centuries. It is the “gloop” which comes from linseed’s soluble fibre or mucilage that helps coughs. It has been the basis for many proprietary cough medicines and is even used in modern cough medicines.

Linseed tea makes a great base for your own favourites cough and cold remedies such as honey and ginger.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour
Total Time 1 hour 5 minutes

Servings 3 mugs

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbs Whole Linseed
  • 1 litre Water or more

Instructions
 

  • Place seeds in a saucepan, bring to boil and turn down to a simmer. Simmer gently for one hour.
  • Strain through a sieve, dilute with more boiling water, if required, and serve.
  • Cooled tea can be stored in fridge for up to five days,

Notes

You can add your favourite cough and cold remedies lemon, honey, ginger (fresh or ground) or whisky to taste or drop in your favourite herbal tea bag to enhance the effectiveness and add flavour to the tea..
To use stored tea from fridge reheat in microwave or  saucepan until hot.
